Sun is Shining, Mama (Tu Madre) Says to Drink Your Jamaica

UFC Is Coming To Town!!!
…Not the Ulitimate Fighting Club, but the Underground Food Collective. These folks come all the way from Madison, WI to share their delicious food with us. I had the pleasure of attending one of the Pre Industrial Pig Dinners that they brought to Brooklyn last Fall, and let me tell you that it was the finest display of pork that I have ever tasted. Next month they are bringin a Celebration of Spring to three different venues around Brooklyn. Grab a seat now! The last time that Johnny, Ben and the UFC came to town, it seemed like it was going to be an off-the-radar event…then they got the press they deserve. Bittman, Time Out, Gourmet, etc. all had wonderful things to say about the dinners. I can guarantee you that these dinners will sell out. Get your tix at Brown Paper Tickets.
Two Arm Party
What the hell is a “Two Arm Party”? Its the name that some friends of ours have given to their cross-country bike trip and its also the name of the blog that they are using to keep us updated on their progress. In about 24 hours Quinn, Ken, and Andy will hop on a train headed West and then return Eastward via pedal power. We wish them the safest travels and we are looking forward to watching them pull back into the city months from now. Check out their blog here, i can assure you that those guys will keep you entertained, as I can only imagine what Quinn will be going through while hanging out with these two:

TapIt, Filling Your Reusable Water Bottles All Over The City
These Ladies and Gentlemen have started this fantastic organization that will help you find a friendly shop, cafe, or restaurant (like us) where you can freely walk in with your reusable water bottle and have it refilled with NYC tap water…some of the best in the world! Cayuga Pure Organics, Now at Neighburrito
Trying to use local and organic ingredients and products is a leading tenet in the way we do business, but we have a LONG way to go before achieving any goals we have set.
Well, we have taken one more step in the right direction, and I think that its quite big step. I recently met some folks from Cayuga Pure Organics farm, which is located in Brooktondale, near Ithaca. These hard working men and women have a totally organic farm, raising several varieties of beans. Here at Neighburrito, we go through about 100 lbs of Black and Pinto beans a week and we have been using a conventionally grown product. I was ecstatatic after getting back to the kitchen with the samples i left the Greenmarket with and being able to taste the difference. First of all, these beans are so much fresher that any other dried bean I have ever seen. They cooked up in half the time as our old beans (with about a 5-6 hour pre-soak) and had so much more flavor it was unbelievable.
Go visit them on Wednesdays at the Union Square Greenmarket.
So We’ve Started a Blog….
Now what to do with it? I mean, we sell burritos, we aren’t the most cyber-savvy bunch around, and why would anyone want to read what we have to say?
Here are a few ideas we have that may make this is a functional space for all the fans/haters out there:
1) We’d like to have a place to respond to any questions, complaints, commments, and concerns from our customers. I guess we will have to do this via comments for now but we promise that any comments that are submitted WILL be approved, provided that they are not completely obscene or inappropriate. We also promise that EVERY comment or question that needs a response, will be responded to by me. Who am I, you ask? My name is Dave and I own Neighburrito.
2) We would also like to be able to provide a spot where community events and other items of interest can be at least linked to, if not posted.
3) We will post Pics and other (maybe) entertaining tidbits of media.
4) We want to make sure and give credit where credit is due…we have alot of friends out there and hopefully we can boost their business as well (please make sure and check out the links as the list grows).
We’re sure that there will be alot of changes to this blog over time and we welcome any feedback about what you want to see here. Please leave a comment and let us know.
Many Thanks,
Dave and the Neighburrito 9
